Our client is currently offering a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Highways Engineer to join their busy Transport Engineering team in Manchester. This role is ideal for someone with a strong track record in delivering complex infrastructure projects, business development, and work winning.
As a senior member of the team, you will lead the execution of a diverse range of projects while playing a key role in expanding the team through both new and existing client relationships. You’ll be supported by a well-established group of Engineers and a Technical Discipline Manager to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality outcomes.

The Role:
You will work both independently and collaboratively to develop new business and deliver existing projects. This includes:
- Acting as Project Manager for complex infrastructure schemes
- Leading business development efforts and proposal development
- Managing key client relationships
- Providing guidance and work to team members across various disciplines
- Mentoring and coaching junior engineers
- Supporting sector and client leads with strategic initiatives
As a senior figure in the team, you’ll also help shape the team’s strategic direction—identifying new markets, enhancing capabilities, and supporting recruitment and team growth.
You’ll collaborate with professionals across other sectors and disciplines, including advisory, environmental, land and water, and specialist engineering services. There will also be opportunities for travel across Europe and involvement in internal business development initiatives within a dynamic consultancy environment.
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
- Proven experience leading infrastructure and highways projects in the UK
- Strong business development skills with the ability to win work and maintain client relationships
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams in consultancy or contracting environments
- Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills
- Deep knowledge of UK engineering standards and guidance
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Membership with ICE or similar professional body
- Full, valid UK driving licence
- Experience in procurement and technical specification writing
