We are seeking an experienced Contract Engineer to provide site supervision for the construction of a landfill cell liner system and associated site infrastructure. The successful candidate will oversee the contractor’s activities, ensure compliance with design specifications, quality standards, health & safety regulations, and manage day-to-day technical issues arising during the project.
The role:
- Supervise and monitor all construction activities related to:
- Landfill cell liner system (geomembranes, geosynthetics, leachate collection layers, clay liners, etc.)
- Associated site infrastructure (roads, drainage, leachate management systems, gas collection infrastructure, etc.)
- Ensure that all works are carried out in accordance with the approved design, technical specifications, environmental permits, and project quality requirements.
- Review and approve contractor’s method statements, quality control plans, and work schedules.
- Conduct daily site inspections, prepare progress reports, and document any non-conformances.
- Coordinate with the contractor, client, and design team to resolve technical issues on-site.
- Oversee material testing, inspection, and certification to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Monitor health, safety, and environmental (HSE) performance, enforcing adherence to site safety protocols.
- Provide technical guidance and ensure proper implementation of construction best practices.
- Attend and participate in site meetings, progress reviews, and stakeholder discussions.
What you need to succeed:
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in construction supervision, with at least 3 years in landfill or geosynthetics-related projects.
- Proven track record in supervising landfill liner installations, geosynthetics, and related environmental infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of relevant standards and regulations (e.g., CQA, EPA guidelines).
- Experience with Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes for liner systems and earthworks.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with construction contract administration (e.g., FIDIC or similar) is an advantage.
- Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) desirable.
