We have an opening for a Flood Modeller to join our clients UK based remote team. You’ll be joining a team of talented flood risk consultants, natural flood management consultants, water neutrality, nutrient neutrality, civil engineers and hydraulic modellers.
You will become a key part of the existing Scotland flood risk and drainage team; the successful candidate will have an enthusiasm to develop their career in the water/environment sector.
The right candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a distributed team and can communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with colleagues and clients alike.
You’ll work across private sector and major infrastructure jobs with a diverse project portfolio. There are even opportunities to work internationally. This role is aimed at those wanting to progress their career and gain exposure to new aspects of being a consultant, bidding for work, project management, business development and exposure to being responsible for projects concept through to completion.

The role
- Write clear, concise and technically accurate detailed FRA reports in full accordance with the relevant NPF4 policy, adhering to both SEPA and Local Authority requirements
- Translate complex modelling outputs to easily accessible and understandable information to support the clients desired outcomes (planning/ flood alleviation)
- Demonstrate the capacity to work as part of a distributed team and be able to work and manage time and resources effectively
- Show a desire to grow with, and progress within the company and wider industry
- Undertake hydrological analysis for model inputs using WINFAP/ReFH or other methods
- Develop hydraulic models from survey and check and review third party models for suitability
What you need to succeed
- We expect applicants to have significant experience in several UK recognised flood modelling packages, such as Flood Modeller, ESTRY and TuFLOW.
- To have experience in developing hydrological assessments using WINFAP, ReFH2 and FEH statistical methods.
- To be familiar with both 1D and 2D modelling methods and their application to a range of studies.
- A key part of the role is being able to communicate your decision-making process, adapt to challenging modelling requirements and present technically sound information to a range of stakeholders.
- Experience dealing with SEPA and Local authorities is essential, as well as a sound understanding of producing detailed Flood Risk Assessments in support of planning applications in accordance with NPF4 (Policies 10 and 22).
- To be successful in this role you will hold a minimum degree(s) in Geography, Environmental Management or Engineering and have a good technical background with anything from 4 years upwards of UK based industry experience.
