Transport Planner

The Basingstoke Transport team has twenty plus members of all grades/levels of experience. They are a friendly team that promotes flexible working.

They work for both the private and public sector ranging from private house builders to local authorities to National Highways and the Department for Transport, and this is a great opportunity to get involved in projects in all these skill areas and also with like-minded teams within Transport across the UK.

The Role:

  • Providing technical inputs to a wide range of public and private sector transport assessments, studies and strategy projects including identifying transport options, undertaking appraisals and identifying recommended solutions;
  • Working as part of the team, delegating tasks and overseeing the technical project work produced by junior members of staff;
  • Working in a large multi-disciplinary office with access to a wide range of people and collaboratively working on large scale projects.

What you need to succeed:

  • A relevant Degree (Geography, Civil Engineering, Town Planning etc);
  • Experience in contributing to i) transport studies, strategies, appraisals, Option Assessment Reports and Business Case development for the public sector and/or ii) Transport Assessments and Travel Plans and providing design advice to developers and architects;
  • Up to date knowledge on latest transport policies and legislations, design standards (DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 01/20) and/or planning processes applicable to the UK.
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office tools, excel spreadsheets,
  • Analytical experience such as transport data analysis and presentation and/or transportation software including TRICS and junction modelling programmes (ARCADY, PICADY and LinSig);
  • Ability to produce and contribute to technical project and non-technical public reports to a high technical standard;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and able to communicate confidently with others.

The following skills / qualifications are desirable:

  • Masters degree in Transportation Planning;
  • Experience of traffic engineering and AutoCAD;
  • Experience of GIS packages
  • Experience of stakeholder management and public consultation
  • Full and clean driving licence
